USB Readers – A learning Experience
As I am new to the world of print management software, I guess that most of you that will read this will already know what a card reader looks like and what it does when relating to a Multi-Function Printer (MFP). Well please excuse me but until recently I did not. To be honest, I did not even know what an MFP was…(#livingunderarock)
Anyway, the card reader sits on or in the MFP (get me!) and identifies the user by use of a swipe card before the device unlocks. This has many advantages, but the main ones being security and saving money for the customer. It provides “security” as the device will only print when the user is stood at the device and “saving money” as it’s very easy to allocate and manage print and copy quotas using print management software such as PaperCut MF.
In my short time with selectec, I have seen incorrect card readers ordered on occasion. This becomes a huge problem on the day of installation as it disappoints the customer and creating a negative first impression. With licenses and devices in place and engineers ready on site, everything is going to plan until the card readers are opened and do not work with the devices or the customer’s cards or card fobs.
We are pleased to say there is a simple solution, we (well our technical guys) at selectec offer a free service to all resellers where we will test the card readers and cards for you to make sure that they are compatible for your installation. Let us help you to take away any uncertainty and ensure that your customer is happy and that you look professional. Always good for return business or business in general.
