What is it?

What is ID Reminder?

ID Reminder is a free Windows tool that connects to PaperCut MF, works out who has a Primary ID, a Secondary ID or both, and emails each person their own number. If someone doesn’t have an ID yet, it can create a random, unique one and save it in PaperCut for them.

We first built ID Reminder in 2017. It borrowed PaperCut’s own email settings and quietly did its job for years, until Microsoft and Google switched off plain username-and-password email. Version 2.0 is a complete rebuild for the way email works now.

It’s made by Selectec, the UK’s longest-standing PaperCut distributor, and it’s free for any PaperCut MF site to use.

What’s new in 2.0

Same job, very different tool

Everything that made the old version fiddly has gone.

No more config file

Double-click one file and a page opens in your browser. Every setting lives there, step by step.

Modern email sign-in

Signs in to Microsoft 365 and Gmail the proper OAuth way, so there are no passwords sitting in text files.

Guides built in

Every field that needs a token or secret has a step-by-step guide next to it, including the Entra and Google Cloud steps.

Safe by default

It starts on sample data in preview mode. When you go live, there’s a dry run before IDs are saved and a confirmation before anything is sent.

No double emails

Every real send is logged, so you can close it, come back next week, and it still knows who’s had theirs.

Secrets stay on your PC

Tokens and passwords are encrypted with Windows’ own per-user protection and never shown on screen again once saved.

About the tool

ID Reminder questions

Is ID Reminder really free?

Yes. There’s no licence to buy and no time limit. It comes with no warranty, and support is best-effort by email.

What does ID Reminder do?

It reads your users from PaperCut MF and emails each person their own Primary or Secondary ID number, so they can log in at the printer with a PIN or register their card.

Can it create IDs for people who don’t have one?

Yes. It can create a random, unique ID for anyone missing one and save it in PaperCut. You see a dry run of every change before anything is saved.

Will people get emailed twice?

No. Every real send is logged on your PC, so ID Reminder knows who has already had their number, even if you close it and come back later.

Why did the old version stop working?

Microsoft and Google switched off plain username-and-password sign-in for email. The original tool relied on it, so we rebuilt ID Reminder to use modern OAuth sign-in instead.
